About us

Joining the Folk Group offers a plethora of benefits for outdoor enthusiasts beyond the joys of simple camping. Our community provides a platform to connect with like-minded individuals who share a passion for exploring the great outdoors and creating lasting memories, but also have a shared interest in all aspects of folk culture. We deliberately adopt a very open and diverse interpretation of folk culture. It doesn’t have to be British Folk, songs don’t have to be performed with fingers in ears, and dances can be fun! We also recognised that many of our members use creativity and crafts in ways that add to folk culture.

Being part of a folk and camping community also opens doors to new camping locations, local knowledge of folk activities and a sense of belonging to a supportive and welcoming group. Our members love sharing their skills and experience, running workshops, playing music together and generally entertaining ourselves. Over the years many of our younger members have developed a deep-seated love of folk music and activities, many of them now working professionally in related areas.

Our general aim is to respect everyones view of “folk” and enjoy outselves. You will be very welcome to join us even if just for a single night to see what we are about. There will be no pressure to join in - we offer opportunities not a training camp!

The Folk Group is embedded into the formal structures of the Camping and Caravanning Club, so that our members can play a part is setting the Club’s direction
